Cocktails:
We’ll learn how to make two classic cocktails: the Negroni and the Margarita. We’ll also have some fun food to nosh on as well as beer, wine, and nonalcoholic beverages.
Negroni
The Negroni is a sophisticated aperitif traditionally made with equal parts of gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Legend has it that was invented over 100 years ago by an Italian count, Camillo Negroni, who had tired of drinking Americanos (basically a highball made with Campari, sweet vermouth, and club soda). Count Negroni wanted a boozier drink, so he asked the bartender to substitute gin for club soda, thus creating his namesake, which has become one of the world’s most loved cocktails.
Margarita
Although there are many conflicting claims as to who invented the margarita, what is not in dispute is its near universal popularity. There are innumerable recipes for this delightful blend of tequila, lime, and triple sec, which can be served on the rocks or as a blended “slushie”. I will share my personal favorite recipe, which includes blanco tequila, fresh lime juice, agave syrup, and a good quality orange liqueur. Stay thirsty my friends.
Best regards,
Jim
